Service Dog Etiquette
Remember that you do not know, and are not entitled to ask the stories or medical history of another individual.
If you see a service dog team in public, remember you:
Ignore the dog so they can focus on their handler
Address the handler and say hello instead of addressing the dog
Respect the handler and do not insert yourself into their
conversation or situation
Distract the dog in any way
(i.e. talking to, making faces at, making noises to, try to
obtain eye contact with, etc.)
Go up and pet the dog if you have not gotten approval from
Expect to be able to interact with the service dog
Almost every state in the United States has a law prohibiting the harassment of or interference with a Service Dogs with legal action taken against the offender.
